I was an Executive Trainee

It took nine months to complete under the Trainee Executive Program. The were about 60 intake in my batch. But, at the end of the program about 10 student left the program.

Most of the nine program was conducted in Head Office of Bank Pertanian. At the time head office were located in three buildings. Bank Pertanian head office is in Kuala Lumpur. Credit operation was located at fourth floor in Wisma Yakin; Research and Planning was located in fifth floor in Loke Yew Building. The other departments and office for Managing Director and General Manager were in Sultan Sulaiman Building. That time (1970s) there was no Kuala Branch, so all counter activities was handled by head office at Sultan Sulaiman Building.

As a could remember, as trainee executive, we learnt all aspects on bank's operation. We were exposed to the following subjects: credit management, accounting, banking operations, research, human resource management, product development and procedures, branch operation, and all programs and credit schemes offered by Bank Pertanian. The most popular tcredit schemes at that time were paddy credit scheme, equipment credit scheme, tobacco credit scheme, fishery credit scheme and agribusiness credit scheme.

For credit management, we learnt about credit appraisal, credit supervision and loan recovery. For credit appraisal, we were taught on 5C's (condition, capital, capability, collateral and character).

Why I joined the Agrobank

Agrobank (Bank Pertanian Malaysia) is the first and the last job I joined. The story started in 1977, when I was a third year student in the University of Malaya. One day when I was walking to Dewan Tunku Chanselor Building, I saw an advertisement from Bank Pertanian Malaysia for the position of executive trainee. At that time it was at the end of the year when students were looking for jobs.

I applied to Bank Pertanian and after two interviews, I was successful and appointed as Executive Trainee on 1st March 1997.

Overview

My nick name is Mansid. This blog is to share with the readers my working experience with Bank Pertanian (since 1st April 2006, Bank Pertanian is known as Agrobank)

My career started as Executive Trainee. That was in 1977. After nine months undergone the training program, I was attached to Planning and Research Department as Research Officer.

After about 7 years in that department, in 1984,I was transferred to Malacca as a branch manager. It was 3 years in the branch before I was transfer back to Head Office as a Unit Head in Credit Division in 1988.

In 1990, I got a scholarship from the Malaysian Government to get a Master Degree in Economics. I and my family went to Michigan, USA in 1990 to pursue my post graduate.

After completed my study, I went back to Malaysia. Again, I was attached to Research and Planning Department. Then, for a period of 7 months, in 2005 I was transferred to Internal Audit Department as a Chief Internal Auditor (CIA).

In 2006, I was transferred back to Corporate Planning. If you have noticed, I have spent many years in Agrobank to do jobs related to research and planning.

Again in 2008 until today, I am in Internal Audit Department as CIA.

In 2010 I am going to retire, I hope this is last department I contribute my service to Agrobank.

After more than 30 years, I am happy working with the bank. I gain a lot of experience mainly in the area of research, planning and auditing. Besides that, I have given opportunities by the bank to visit many countries. The countries are the Philippines, United States of America, Taiwan, Japan and Netherlands.
